Bring your submissions to Chicago
If
you’re looking to showcase your skills as a creator, Chicago is the place to be
in June. Transfuzion is looking for talented creators spotlighting innovative
stories so if you have something, make sure to drop off a copy at the
Transfuzion Publishing area during the con. Because of the space limitations,
it will be hard to do any evaluations of art so we’re looking more for packages
to be dropped off. Make sure you follow the standard procedure of putting your
name on stuff (you would not believe how often someone doesn’t) and include a
way of getting in touch with you…if you want anything returned, it has to have
return mail. Check the submission guidelines
for more information.
transfuzion hitting the road to

Transfuzion will be
making its second appearance at Wizard World Chicago this year, June 26-29. It
was at last year’s Chicago Con that Transfuzion officially became, uh,
official. Publishers Gary Reed and Rafael Nieves will be joined by some talents
at the Transfuzion spot in Artists Alley and many creators will have their own
tables in the general area of Transfuzion.

STORIES REVIEWED IN NEWSARAMA’S BEST SHOTS
“This 300-page trade
paperback reprints nearly three-dozen of Gary’s short stories written over his
illustrious career. Now if
Gary
wanted to, I think he would be a fantastic writer on a title like Batman or
Superman. But although he is a lifelong comic fan, he has no interest in doing
the popular titles. Gary loves to do what he loves. First and foremost, he is a
storyteller. For instance, Gary loves to set stories against a historical
background or with a historical figure or character from literature and put his
own unique and clever spin on them. Of Scenes and Stories provides some of these
interesting takes. But it’s not all about historical stories. Reed was equally
adept at writing the fantastic as well. If your’re looking for something far
different than the ordinary, something with a little more literary bite with
stories much more intellectually stimulating , you must puck up Gary Reed’s “Of
Scenes and Stories”.

Reviewed- of scenes and stories by comics should
be good
“Reed
obviously has some favorite themes, including examining horror ideas from
different angles and historical fiction, and they come through in this book.
The ”mundane” stories, that is, the ones that strip out the “genre” aspects and
focus instead on the realistic characters, also work well. Of Scenes and
Stories is a very interesting book with a lot of stuff that you just don’t see
in regular comics. Reed has a lot of excellent ideas, and it would be nice to
see more creators tackle a wide variety of genres and themes instead of
pigeon-holing themselves.”

Gary Reed interviewed by paul dale Roberts
An excerpt from
the interview.
Paul:
how come you are over at Transfuzion now?
Gary: Transfuzion is a publishing company started by Rafael
Nieves and myself. It started off just collecting some of the previously
published material that we did and the plan was to get the collections together
and sell them on Amazon or direct. There’s a lot of stuff I wrote that was never
collected or if it was, wasn’t in a collection that I was satisfied with.
Rafael, of course, has a lot of his own material. When it started up, we got
quite a few inquiries from people we worked with before about collecting their
stuff and then it spun off into some new material that was going to be
presented. Sort of snowballed with Raf and I trying to catch up with everything.
So, now we’re going through Diamond and exploring some other outlets. But
Transfuzion isn’t meant to be the single outlet for either Raf or me. We’re both
working with other publishers, Raf with Moonstone mainly and me with Desperado,
but we both have other things going on as well.
